33rd Annual Bargain Book Sale a Success
Thank You to all of the volunteers and patrons who made this years Book Sale a HUGE success! Over 65,000 books were taken to the sale, helping to raise over $60,000 for the Houston Public Library!
The sale would not have been possible without our friends and volunteers so thank you again.

The Friends Recycle
Every year generous Houstonians donate thousands of items to the Friends, everything from books to magazines and newspapers. Unfortunately the Friends can't sell newspapers and magazines and sometimes books are damaged when they come to us. So what do we do with these?

The Friends recycle them!
Through our relationship with Greenstar Recycling in 2010 alone we recycled over 40 tons of material! Those 40 tons of recycling helped to save 685 trees, 280,206 gallons of water and 23,656 pounds of air pollution.
In addition, Vista Fibers, Greenstar's parent company, gave Friends of the Houston Public Library a $5,000 grant, thanks to volunteer Lee Smith's determination and leadership.
