How to use summer reader
The
PowerPoint for Summer Reader has been added to the Training Portal. Please
review as needed, if you need to brush up on Summer Reader, and share with your
staff.

Remember,
Summer Reading is EVERYONE’S responsibility-not just youth staff members’! All
frontline staff needs to know how to register, log, and award prizes.
If
you have any questions, please let me know. Also, if you do practice, make sure
to delete the fake people so that our statistics will be accurate.

Manager Meeting announcements
I.
Customer Experience Update and Announcements -
Customer Experience Administration (Liz, Laurie and Mary)
AC is supposed to be 74 +- 2 degrees so has to be 76 or
higher before we report AC issues.
We will get an intern at Smith on 6/13 they will work 32
hours a week.
Flip kits will now need to be checked out to the REFURB
account before you send back to the CMH.
Learning Link card is still working out the details but
215,000 HISD students will receive a physical card that will enable them to
check out 10 books at a time. Teachers will receive an online card to
access resources on the libraries web site.
II.
Digital Strategies Update- Rick Peralez,
Assistant Director of Digital Strategies; Robin Cabrera, Technical Hardware
Analyst II
HPL Rescue will be put on all staff computers soon.
It will be a blue circle with a plus sign. This will allow you to instant
message with the IT department to get computers fixed faster
Public wireless will be changing to an Authentication
required system. Customers will need library card # and Pin # to access
HPL Public network. The purpose is to provide more security for customers.

TechLINK and HPL’s Path Forward - John
Middleton, Assistant Director of SPACES; Rick Peralez, Assistant Director of
Digital Strategies
TechLINK will be a program offered at 10 HPL locations
currently there are 3 levels planned. Building, Room, or classes Smith is
scheduled to have TechLINK classes

I am thrilled to share with
you information about a new and exciting super multimedia and technology
infused service model we are calling TechLink. The “official”
description and a video link about TechLink is below:
…TechLink will be a
new and innovative technology service platform offering technology enriched
digital creatives spaces for our customers. TechLink will provide the
spaces, technology, instruction and tools and equipment for music and video
production, digital animation, graphic design, photo editing, multimedia
presentations, coding and game development. TechLink will be crafted as a
learning environment with a focus on creativity, self-expression, and
collaboration offering technology-based programs, classes and workshops based
on current library and technology trends and community needs. TechLink
will also serve as a testing venue for professional certifications.
TechLink will give HPL the Platform to bring emerging technologies to our
customers well into future.
Led by the Digital
Strategies team, our first TechLink will be launched in the Scenic Woods
Neighborhood Library. As our world is changing so are our libraries. Stay tuned
for updates on the progress and an opening event for HPL’s future forward new
service.

Youth Services Update- Kallie Benes, Youth
Services Advocate
August 12 is a mandatory meeting for Youth staff this
will be where the training for the new Learning Link card training will happen.
This year we will have Summer Reading for Grownups as
well as SRP for Kids

Discussed the locations the program would happen.
The kids at Camp Stream have to have a library card and sign up for SRP

Please
see the attached memo from the Mayor stating that a new process of the annual
freeze of personnel actions will begin this fiscal year-end which will be June
25, 2016 through July 2, 2016. There will be no personnel activity during that
time frame but HR will continue with posting positions, interview process and
vetting candidates. HR will just not be able to have effective dates for any
selections.
In
addition, the HOPE increase will also impact personnel actions for promotions
and any salary increases. The HOPE increase is effective July 22, 2016,
therefore no promotions or salary increases will be effective for the July 2,
2016 pay period. We will be able to hire new employees and the 1st
effective date for new hires would be July 5, 2016 or any other
applicable date for new hires after that date.
